Know little more about your destination - island Vis
The town of Vis is situated on the northeast side of the homonymous island and, unlike Komiža, is facing the mainland. It is quite larger than Komiža, so if you are interested in walking prepare yourself that it will take you a bit longer. Although there is only a 10-kilometre distance between Vis and Komiža, there is quite a difference between them. While in the past the local people of Komiža were mainly involved in the fishing trade, the locals of Vis oriented more towards agriculture- viticulture in particular. The position of Vis facing the mainland had influence on the Vis dialect which is quite different from that of Komiža. You are more likely to understand the Vis dialect but we cannot guarantee that for the Komiža dialect.
On the east side of the town of Vis there is Kut, in our opinion, the most beautiful part of the town. There are several lovely taverns and restaurants where you can taste the specialties of the island, local wine and home-made sweets. If you plan to visit the town of Vis then Kut should definitely be first on your list.
A beautiful pebble beach
Stiniva bay is one of the most famous and visited bays on the island of Vis, situated on the south side. What makes this bay so special are two high rocky cliffs which, at their closest point, are just four meters from each other. They surround the whole bay so you can reach them by sea via a small boat.
From the land side, the beach can be reached by a steep, rough goat track which is longer and more difficult. Going down may not be as demanding as going up, i.e. climbing on your way back. Regardless of which challenging road you should take to reach the bay, we believe that you will forget the distance travelled as soon as you reach the goal.
Rukavac is situated at the southeast end of the island of Vis. It is the largest coastal village which consists of Old Rukavac bay, the port, Upper and Lower Rukavac. There are restaurants, beaches and a boat dock in the port. There are many apartments, villas and holiday homes in the small villages of Upper and Lower Rukavac.
In Rukavac you can get on an excursion boat that will take you to the nearby small island of Ravnik where the Green cave is located. There are two beautiful beaches near Rukavac: the Silver beach and Tepluš. you reach the goal.
The island of Biševo is most famous for its Blue cave. The Blue cave is situated on the east side of the island and can be reached by a small boat only. It was discovered in 1884 by baron Eugen von Ransonnet, at whose request the entrance to the cave was widened. The cave has two openings, the smaller one and the bigger one which was artificially widened so its height is up to 1.5 meters and its length around 2.5 meters.
What makes the Blue cave so special is a blue glowing effect caused by the reflection and refraction of sunlight from the bottom of the sea. These effects create the most beautiful silver blue reflection. The ideal moment to visit the cave is in the summer between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. when the sun is high in the sky, because at that time the glowing effect is most evident. reach the goal.
